WHY: With a commitment to developing the minds, bodies and spirits of youth, the Y recognizes we play a vital role in teaching America’s youth about the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and providing ongoing opportunities to learn through education, practical application and hands-on experience. The YMCA also recognizes the need to provide continued learning opportunities throughout the summer to help fight summer learning loss and close the academic achievement gap.
The Weston YMCA Family Center’s new STEM Education Center will not only keep kids’ minds active during the summer, but will help raise kids’ interest and engagement in STEM through dynamic programming throughout the year. Through the new STEM Center, kids will be taught real-life applications of concepts that will help transcend socioeconomic barriers and open pathways to rewarding futures.
