After-School Swimming Lessons At The Y
Looking for a fun activity to keep your kids busy after the summer months? The Y offers private swimming lessons in Florida, allowing kids of all ages to learn a valuable life skill that promotes health and safety.
Our professionally-trained swimming instructors will evaluate your child one-on-one to determine their level of swimming skills. Whether they’re just learning how to swim or already know the basics, the Y’s private swimming lessons allow our instructors will lay out a plan that fits your child’s skill level.
For beginners, we begin with water discovery and exploration so your child learns how to be comfortable in the water. After that, we move on to swim basics, with a focus on safety.
Once your child is comfortable in the water and has learned basic swimming safety, he/she will learn stroke fundamentals, such as the breaststroke and backstroke, and swimming endurance, sports, and games.
Our private swimming lessons are tailored to your child’s needs so that they get the most out of their time at the Y.
Swimming Safety Matters
At the Y, your child’s safety is our top concern. Our pools are always staffed with professional lifeguards trained and certified in several life-saving techniques, including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. They are also drilled on a daily basis to ensure they’re always equipped to respond to emergencies.
Our YMCA-certified swimming instructors, who will be with your child for the entirety of their lesson, are also trained in CPS, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
In Florida, water is everywhere, whether it’s a beach, lake, or backyard pool. Unfortunately, accidental drownings are the leading cause of death among infants and small children in the state. Learning how to swim is the best way to prevent drownings and the YMCA of South Florida provides a safe place to learn a vital, life-saving skill.
The “Perfect” After-School Program
Doctors recommend that children get at least 420 minutes of physical activity per week. But according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, half of all U.S. children do not meet that criteria and only 5 percent meet the recommended amount of 60 minutes per day. This is leading to epidemic obesity rates among children, which can cause further health problems as they get older.
After a long day at school, where students are mostly inside and sedentary, most children go home and remain sedentary as they play video games or watch television. However, by enrolling in the Y’s private, after-school swimming lessons in Florida, you ensure that your child will get the exercise they need and have fun doing it.
The Harvard Medical School describes swimming as the “perfect” form of exercise because it works out the whole body, improves cardiovascular health, and is easy on the joints, unlike land-based exercises like running.
Swimming has also been shown to improve mental well-being by
lowering stress, improving sleep, and reducing depression and anxiety.
Physical and mental well-being are crucial to living a happy life and swimming lessons at the Y provide your child with a safe and healthy way to help them be the best version of themselves.
