AN EVENING SUPPORTING WATER SAFETY EDUCATION AND DROWNING PREVENTION
Beach Ball is the Y’s signature event. The organization assumes responsibility for ensuring families and individuals are safe in and around water. YMCA’s certified
instructors inspire confidence and teach swimming and life-saving techniques.
All proceeds from the Beach Ball Gala are directed towards Aquatics Financial Assistance, which furnishes essential swim lessons and water safety instruction to at-risk children, teens, and families within YMCA communities. South Florida leads the nation in annual drownings; we must work together to change this.
For $100 per child, the Y implements its eight-lesson drowning prevention initiative. Children learn to swim or become comfortable enough to remain safe in or around the water. Each child lost due to accidental drowning is one child too many. The Y hopes to make a larger impact locally and statewide with your support.
The organization remains committed to saving lives and educating the community on water safety.

Florida has the most child drownings of all ages in the nation by more than double the next closest state, with Broward and Miami-Dade having the most drowning deaths in the state. Annually, that equates to enough children to fill four classrooms.
The Y has been dedicated to teaching swim lessons for more than 100 years in our community, and here’s why:
- Formal swimming lesson reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%
- 64% of African American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino and 40% of Caucasian children have little to no swimming ability
- For every child who loses their life from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries
Drowning is preventable!
Proceeds from this event will be directed towards Aquatic Financial Assistance, which provides swim lessons and water safety instruction to at risk children, teens and families. At the Y, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.
