Saturday, October 2 2021 7PM – MIDNIGHT Location: Intercontinental Miami Hotel The YMCA of South Florida is dedicated to ensuring that ALL children have the opportunity to learn to swim and that ALL families are educated about water safety. We have been teaching swimming and water safety for over 100 years, and with your support, we will continue to do so. Join us for an exciting evening of dining, dancing, and the opportunity to participate in our fabulous live auction and wine wall. All proceeds from this event fund our water safety and drowning prevention programs.
Let’s Get Wild! Join us for the 2021 Beach Ball as we showcase the YMCA’s deep commitment to water safety & drowning prevention in South Florida. Florida has the most child drownings of all ages in the nation by more than double the next closest state, with Broward and Miami-Dade having the most drowning deaths in the state. Annually, that equates to enough children to fill four classrooms.
The Y has been dedicated to teaching swim lessons for more than 100 years in our community, and here’s why:
Formal swimming lesson reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%
64% of African American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino and 40% of Caucasian children have little to no swimming ability
For every child who loses their life from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries
DROWNING IS PREVENTABLE!
Proceeds from this event will be directed towards Aquatic Financial Assistance, which provides swim lessons and water safety instruction to at risk children, teens and families. At the Y, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.
