LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL: CELEBRATING THE IMPORTANCE OF AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS

On October 24, the YMCA hosted more than 500 children, parents, and teachers at Maplewood and Pine Island elementary schools for Lights on Afterschool, a national event celebrating the importance of afterschool programs. Families took part in fun, family-friendly activities that included YFit and activities around weather and climate health with the Museum of Science & Discovery. The students also had their diorama projects on display for their families. Diorama is a scenic representation of something. The YMCA afterschool program uses project-based learning, a technique where students do deep investigations into a range of topics.
