FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FAQs: Answers for Families, Support for Every Child
Choosing before- and after-school care is an important decision, and families deserve clear answers. Whether you’re enrolling your child for the first time or returning for another school year, our goal is to make the process simple and transparent, so you feel confident knowing your child is in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment every day.
Who can enroll in YMCA before and after-school programs?
Our programs are open to all school-aged students in grades K–8 who attend one of our partner schools. To ensure consistency and a smooth experience for families, students must be enrolled at the same school where the YMCA program is offered.
Where are YMCA after-school programs offered?
We’re proud to serve a wide network of elementary, K–8, and middle schools across Miami-Dade County. You’ll find a full list of our current school sites just above this section.
What kinds of activities will my child participate in?
Our after-school programs are designed to engage the whole child — academically, socially, and creatively. Children enjoy:
- Homework help and academic support
- Indoor and outdoor games
- Arts and crafts
- Daily snack time
- Enrichment activities like music, drama, STEM, chess, and more
We focus on creating a safe, fun, and nurturing environment where every student can learn, play, and grow.
What are the program hours?
To meet the needs of busy families, we offer:
- Before-school care: Starting at 7:00 AM (available at select locations)
- After-school care:
- Elementary/K-8: 1:50 PM–6:00 PM
- Middle School: 3:50 PM–6:30 PM
- All-day programs: Available at select sites during teacher planning days, school breaks, and summer (typically 8:00 AM–6:00 PM)
How much does the program cost?
Program fees depend on the school site and program type. For detailed fee and site information, click here.
How do I register my child?
Registration is simple and required for all students. You can complete your child’s registration here.
Are snacks provided?
Yes! We provide a healthy snack every day at no cost to you. If your child has food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know during registration so we can make any necessary accommodations.
What if my child has special needs?
We’re committed to supporting every child’s unique needs. If your child requires accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please speak with your school’s site administrator or contact our Behavior Strategist, Julissa Piña, at [email protected]. We’re here to work alongside you to ensure your child thrives.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! We believe every family deserves access to quality after-school care.
- You can apply for YMCA’s sliding fee scale here.
- We also accept ELC (Early Learning Coalition) vouchers.
If you have questions or need support, our caring Family Support Services team is here to help.
Is student accident insurance required to participate in YMCA before/after school programs or Club Y classes?
Miami-Dade County Public Schools mandates that all students enrolled in before/after school care or Club Y classes must have Health Special Risk, Inc. (HSR) Student Accident Insurance, even if they already have personal or family medical coverage. This supplemental plan does not replace existing insurance.
Students cannot participate or be considered registered for YMCA programs or Club Y classes without verified proof of HSR insurance.
To purchase and manage your policy, visit: HSR Enrollment Portal. After payment, upload your receipt to the family portal or provide a copy to the YMCA program.
